Checking which product a conclusion concerns
Before assessing the methodology, compare the description of the object in the report with the handover documents: the model, individual identifiers, contents and available photographs. If the examination covers several items, it should be clear which observations and results relate to each one. The same trade name does not in itself confirm that the same individual item was checked in the same condition.
Then find the basis for each disputed conclusion in the examination section. It is useful to record the question, the sign found, the check performed and the explanation of the cause separately. This helps distinguish a missing answer from an answer that has been given but is insufficiently justified or limited by the available materials.
Questions to clarify the report
- What data confirms the identity of the item examined?
- What changes to the object occurred before the checks described were performed?
- Was the reported defect reproduced, and under what conditions?
- Are the results referred to in the final conclusion available?
- Have other technical explanations of the observed signs been considered?
Photographs in the appendices, measurement tables and test records should be assessed together with the text. Their absence from the copy provided should not be presented as proof that a check was not performed: first establish whether the available set is complete.
A comment should identify both the gap found and its significance for a particular answer. A document-based review does not restore the product's lost condition or become a new examination of its current operation. If a separate inspection is needed, this is taken into account when formulating further technical questions.
